This week we spent five full days of Cottage camp fun with 37 children and 4 staff members from Thomastown West Primary. The excited campers arrived midday on Monday, just in time for a healthy and delicious lunch before settling in and being greeted with goodies placed on their beds. In the afternoon it was time to head down to Pt. Lonsdale and explore all around the lighthouse and Marine Sanctuary. Whilst walking along the pier that day the group were also lucky enough to be greeted by local resident and show-off Sammy the Seal who always manages to put on a show!
By Tuesday morning the kids and staff were literally racing to get into the water amongst playing other beach games like that of ‘flags’ and ‘fill the bins.’ The rest of the day involved a short bus ride to Barwon Heads to ramble amongst the rock-pools below the Bluff, followed by some playtime at the famous Pirate Park.
On Wednesday & Thursday the large group of children were split into two different groups who then all participated in a variety of activities such as swimming, surfing and paddle-boarding to beat the heat. Even though the Cottage Beach was as flat as a lake during one of the days, the kids still managed to create their own wave of fun on some boogie boards too! Along with this, a sneaky water fight involving everyone seemed to unravel whilst travelling and sight-seeing all over Queenscliff. Visiting our wonderful friends at the Marine Discovery Centre always puts a smile on the children’s faces and ending the week with some relaxed beach play, a visit to the war bunker and hosting some sand castle competitions really was the cherry on-top of a fantastic camp!
