On Saturday, the 21st of January, 2017, Cottage by the Sea Celebrated their 82nd Annual fair. After a long week of preparation which involved planning, organisation, groundwork and not to mention a bit of tough, physical labour in the summer heat, it’s safe to say the hard work and top efforts of many staff and volunteers paid off.
With gates opening at 9am, a flock of guests ran through the Cottage and spread themselves amongst the array of foods, clothes, books, toys, goods and more.
The donut line was “jam-packed” all day, meanwhile the workers at the burrito and burger stalls were cooking up a storm! The pies and cakes are always a sell-out, and Shelley had everyone on the go-go for her yo-yo’s! Our famous Cottage baristas brewed up some beautifully crafted coffees until they couldn’t brew anymore! (Not because they ran out of milk or anything….)
Kids and adults tried their luck at guessing the amount of jelly-beans in the jar and with a close enough guess to 463 beans, we had a very happy winner in the end! The face-painting and craft area were full of smiles all day and many people, both young & old, enjoyed rocking out the fabulous fashion that they had purchased from all the clothing and apparel stalls.
The event that has been up and running since 1935 accumulated in an incredible amount of $67,000 in total at our final count.
We would like to say a huge and humble thank-you to our many wonderful volunteers who put in hours of work before, during and after the event, as well as to our Mentors that also offered assistance out of their own time on the weekend.
To our generous donors and all the other friends, families, students, individuals, couples and people who came out on the day and helped us celebrate our Annual Fair, we also thank-you kindly for your support and contribution, for we couldn’t have done it without you!
